UkrSWIFT at the Global SMPG Meeting in Athens: ISO 20022 and the Future of Securities Markets

On April 21-23, 2026, representatives of the Ukrainian financial community participated in the Global SMPG (Securities Market Practice Group) Meeting in Athens.

Over three days, participants discussed key developments shaping the global securities market, including:

• harmonization of corporate actions processing

• improvements in settlement and reconciliation

• evolution of investment funds practices.

The plenary session focused on major strategic topics:

• transition to T+1 / T+0

• the FASTER initiative

• digital securities

Аutomation of issuance processes, and a central question: what will trigger large-scale migration of securities markets to ISO 20022.

For Ukraine, these discussions are highly strategic, as ISO 20022 adoption is essential for:

• increasing STP rates

• integration with European markets

• enabling open finance.

Participation in SMPG ensures that the Ukrainian financial community has a voice in shaping global standards.
