On 25-29 of May 2026, the international financial standardization community gathered in Rome for a meeting of ISO/TC 68 — the ISO technical committee responsible for standards in the field of financial services.

For UkrSwift, participation in this meeting is an important part of our mission to represent the Ukrainian financial community, support the implementation of international standards, and contribute to the modernization of Ukraine’s financial infrastructure.

Why ISO/TC 68 Matters for Ukraine

ISO/TC 68 develops standards that support secure, interoperable, and efficient exchange of financial information across the global financial system. These standards create a common language for banks, payment systems, financial institutions, regulators, and technology providers.

For Ukraine, this work is highly practical and strategically important.

It supports:

  • further implementation of ISO 20022;

  • higher quality of financial messages and improved STP rates taking in consideration anti-terrorism and AML requirements;

  • alignment of Ukraine’s financial infrastructure with European and global practices;

  • Ukraine’s path toward SEPA integration;

  • development of Decentralized Finance and standardized APIs;

  • Ukraine’s active participation in shaping the future of international financial standards.

Ukraine in the Global Standardization Dialogue

The Rome meeting provided an opportunity for professional discussions with representatives of international standardization bodies, financial institutions, and experts from the global financial services community. Key topics included the development of financial messaging standards, the future of ISO 20022, market interoperability, and the role of standards in strengthening transparency, security, and efficiency in financial services.

We were pleased to exchange views with colleagues from ISO/TC 68, including Jim Northey, Chair of ISO/TC 68, and other members of the international community working on standards that underpin the financial sector.

For UkrSwift, such meetings are not only about technical discussions. They are also an opportunity to bring the Ukrainian perspective to the global table, demonstrate Ukraine’s resilience and expertise, and contribute to the development of the financial infrastructure of the future.

Standards as a Tool for Resilience and Integration

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the importance of reliable financial infrastructure has become even more critical. International standards are not an abstract technical matter. They are practical tools that help ensure continuity of payments, effective cooperation with international partners, and deeper integration of Ukraine into the financial space of the free world.

UkrSwift continues to work so that Ukrainian banks, financial institutions, and market participants can access international best practices, contribute to the development of standards, and remain active participants in the global financial dialogue.

Appreciation to the International Community

We are grateful to our colleagues in ISO/TC 68 for their open professional dialogue, constructive discussions, and commitment to international cooperation. The meeting in Rome confirmed once again that standardization is a shared effort — one that brings countries, institutions, and people together around trust, interoperability, and progress.

UkrSwift will continue to represent the Ukrainian financial community in international initiatives focused on modernizing financial standards, supporting Ukraine’s integration into the European financial space, and strengthening Ukraine’s role in the global financial services infrastructure.
